noun Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French dublet, from duble Date: 14th century a man's close-fitting jacket worn in Europe especially during the Renaissance, something consisting of two identical or similar parts: as, a lens consisting of two components, a spectrum line having two close components, a domino with the same number of spots on each end, a set of two identical or similar things: as, two thrown dice with the same number of spots on the upper face, one of nine pairs of microtubules found in cilia and flagella, one of a pair
